Trends in Luxury Downtown Chicago Apartment Finishes

A slew of new luxury downtown Chicago apartment buildings are set to open over the next year. K2 and Coast are up first, with occupancy slated for March 2013, and Related Midwest’s newest high rise, 500 N Lakeshore Drive, will follow in April.

This new round of luxury multifamily housing will take apartment finishes to the next level. The new trend in luxury downtown Chicago apartment finishes is all about understated elegance and open floor plans with condo quality touches.

Flooring

Carpeting is over! New Chicago apartments will feature hardwood floors in the entry way and common living areas. Flooring will range from laminate hardwood to high end solid wood planks. Flooring will be dark colored – caramel, chocolate, chestnut and ebony.

Bedrooms will remain carpeted, but not in the standard apartment grade plush. Nearly all the buildings will be installing Berber carpeting in the bedrooms.

Kitchens

Granites will be thicker, cabinets nicer and appliances larger. Each kitchen features upgraded touches like goose-neck faucets with pull-out sprayers.

Appliances will all be stainless steel or a sleek black finish. Everything will be name-brand and energy efficient models.

Baths

The newest trend in apartment bathrooms is stand alone, stand-up showers that are separate from bathtubs. Bathrooms will also feature granite or marble vanities and will be decked out in designer tile. Say goodbye to builder grade finishes!

Other Upgrades

All new apartments will feature full size stackable washer/dryer units.

Closet space has been considerably upgraded with larger storage areas in each apartment. Many of the new apartments will have a walk-in closet in the master bedroom.
